For the first time since June, the budget tracking is in order. I spent many hours over the long weekend balancing all our accounts, updating the budget calculator, doing an analysis of spending and revising the budget. And oh, is the new budget ever so painful.
Since both of our car insurance 6-month premiums are due in September, now seemed to be the opportune time to start working on a personal escrow account, inspired by J.D.'s post on Get Rich Slowly . I'm not escrowing the full amount that I should be, but I have to start somewhere, and I'm starting with insurance, ad valorum taxes for the cars and pest control for the house. A little bit each month so those bills won't bite quite so much. The current system of waiting to deal with something that I know is coming for months is just not going to work anymore.
