If you're interested in digging deeper into the topics on this blog, check out some of the great resources below. Many of these links are blogs, and some are just plain vanilla excellent internet resources. I've included descriptions to give a brief idea of each site, and the categories are pretty random. The asterisks mark links I particularly enjoy. That said, every link on this page is a site that I read and enjoy regularly. In fact, quite a few that I read are not on this list, the asterisks are only to denote sites that I really find indispensable. Links on this page open in a new window/tab.
personal finance
The Simple Dollar * Trent at The Simple Dollar started his blog as he climbed out of debt, and over several years has developed into a great personal finance writer.
You Need a Budget Great advice and inexpensive budgeting software.
Blueprint for Financial Prosperity Jim writes with thoughtfulness and maturity beyond a typical recent university grad.
Generation X Finance* Jeremy at Gen X Finance writes with authority and experience, he actually works in the financial services industry, which gives him another level of insight. I'm tail-end Gen X, and his posts often resonate strongly with me.
Free Money Finance FMF posts frequently on a wide range of financial topics. Common sense rules over on his blog.
Get Rich Slowly* J.D. Roth is a wonderful writer on personal finance and just about every other topic. He is also a wonderful resource for discovering new writers across the internet.
consumer advocacy
The Consumerist I'm a huge fan of Gawker Media sites and have been reading the various permutations since 2003. The Consumerist is one of my favorite all-time sites, although sometimes it makes me want to punch a wall. This site is essential to becoming an informed consumer. (update 12/08 -- Consumerist is now owned by the company that publishes Consumer Reports.)
blogging
ProBlogger * Darren Rowse has one of the best resources I've found on the topic of blogging.
productivity
Lifehacker* Another Gawker Media blog and among my favorites. Warning--not for the faint-hearted when it comes to subscribing to this feed. The posts are many, and often tech related. But oh so good.
household management
The Unclutterer * One of my favorite sites, The Unclutterer brings several writers together for daily tips for home and office organization.
simple mom* The title pretty much covers the topic of this blog, which is a great resource for running a household.
Home Ec 101 Heather pushes out reams of information about running a house. The tag line is "What you wish your mama taught you." While I was lucky to have a mama that taught me quite a bit about keeping a home (without me even knowing!), a girl can never have too much useful information.
Frugal Babe Household management without all the chemicals, with a common theme of simple living for families.
Minimalist Mom I don't have a toddler, but I love Rachel's blog about living with less.
Small Notebook Another favorite Rachel, living a simple and focused life.
cooking
Smitten Kitchen * Between the photography and the recipes, I literally have spent hours on this site. Deb and her husband live in a tiny NYC walkup and manage to make dishes that look like they came from the huge kitchen of a professional chef.
The Pioneer Woman Cooks I cannot rave enough about Ree, who runs a multitude of blogs at The Pioneer Woman, this among them. The photos are not only great, but also insanely helpful. I like any cook who uses this much butter.
Cooking for Engineers* Analysis of the cooking process may sound bland, but this site is fascinating. With controlled testing comparing different ways of cooking, this site is more approachable than Cook's Illustrated and other resources that delve deeply into the cooking process.
Cheap Healthy Good The title pretty much says it all. Kris and contributors to her site test and present a wide variety of recipes that consistently catch my eye.
Closet Cooking Kevin in Toronto cooks in a closet-sized kitchen. Home to many, many approachable and tasty recipes.
Poor Girl Eats Well If you're trying make your grocery dollar stretch further than you hope it might, Kimberly's site is for you. Her hunger challenge posts are amazing.
frugal
(please note that many blogs are hard to stick into a set category, so they usually end up here if they are more general interest but with a frugal bent. Many of the links above could also be classified as frugal, but just happen to also have another defining category)
Wise Bread A community of bloggers posting about how to live large on a small budget.
Remodeling This Life Emily is a SAHM trying to live a simple and frugal life.
Frugal Dad* I like his attitude, I like his writing. You should check out his site.
Money Saving Mom Crystal is so good, she can feed her family on $40 a week. Lots of sales tips, coupon leads and general advice for running a household.
I Heart Publix Michelle's site is a fabulous resource for Atlanta-area Publix sales.
Coupon Mom All-around awesome resource for saving money, no matter where you live in the States.
