If you're interested in digging deeper into the topics on this blog, check out some of the great resources below. Many of these links are blogs, and some are just plain vanilla excellent internet resources. I've included descriptions to give a brief idea of each site, and the categories are pretty random. The asterisks mark links I particularly enjoy. That said, every link on this page is a site that I read and enjoy regularly. In fact, quite a few that I read are not on this list, the asterisks are only to denote sites that I really find indispensable. Links on this page open in a new window/tab.
personal finance
The Simple Dollar * Trent at The Simple Dollar started his blog as he climbed out of debt, and over several years has developed into a great personal finance writer.
You Need a Budget Great advice and inexpensive budgeting software.
Spilling Buckets Ryan and Leslie have just finished college and are figuring out how to make it work.
Blueprint for Financial Prosperity Jim writes with thoughtfulness and maturity beyond a typical recent university grad.
Generation X Finance* Jeremy at Gen X Finance writes with authority and experience, he actually works in the financial services industry, which gives him another level of insight. I'm tail-end Gen X, and his posts often resonate strongly with me.
Mrs. Micah Mrs. Micah regularly puts out strong content--her site runs the gamut from personal debt journey to web consulting.
Gather Little By Little Glblguy has worked in the financial industry for more than 15 years and is a father to six children.
consumer advocacy
The Consumerist
I'm a huge fan of Gawker Media sites and have been reading the various
permutations since 2003. The Consumerist is one of my favorite all-time
sites, although sometimes it makes me want to punch a wall. This site
is essential to becoming an informed consumer. (update 12/08 -- Consumerist is for sale.)
debt journey
We Need to Be Debt Free JW is over 40 with too much debt and not enough retirement. Join him on his blogging journey to debt freedom. I have to say, he has successfully implemented some hard-core frugality, and with teenagers in the house to boot.
Blogging Away Debt* Tricia's blog is riveting--I think I spent an entire evening reading her blog start to finish, and I get excited to see a new post on her blog in my feed reader, she writes with stark honesty.
blogging
ProBlogger * Darren Rowse has one of the best resources I've found on the topic of blogging.
productivity
Lifehacker* Another Gawker Media blog and among my favorites. Warning--not for the faint-hearted when it comes to subscribing to this feed. The posts are many, and often tech related. But oh so good.
household management
The Unclutterer * One of my favorite sites, The Unclutterer brings several writers together for daily tips for home and office organization.
simple mom* The title pretty much covers the topic of this blog, which is a great resource for running a household.
Home Ec 101 Heather and Ivy push out reams of information about running a house. Their tag line is "What you wish your mama taught you." While I was lucky to have a mama that taught me quite a bit about keeping a home (without me even knowing!), a girl can never have too much useful information.
Chief Family Officer Cathy has been running her blog for 3 years and counting. Some of her favorite topics are family finances, parenting and cooking. She is a pro at running a household.
cooking
Smitten Kitchen * Between the photography and the recipes, I literally have spent hours on this site. Deb and her husband live in a tiny NYC walkup and manage to make dishes that look like they came from the huge kitchen of a professional chef.
The Pioneer Woman Cooks I cannot rave enough about Ree, who runs a multitude of blogs at The Pioneer Woman, this among them. The photos are not only great, but also insanely helpful. I like any cook who uses this much butter.
Cooking for Engineers* Analysis of the cooking process may sound bland, but this site is fascinating. With controlled testing comparing different ways of cooking, this site is more approachable than Cook's Illustrated and other resources that delve deeply into the cooking process.
Cheap Healthy Good The title pretty much says it all. Kris and contributors to her site test and present a wide variety of recipes that consistently catch my eye.
Closet Cooking Kevin in Toronto cooks in a closet-sized kitchen. Home to many, many approachable and tasty recipes.
frugal
(please note that many blogs are hard to stick into a set category, so they usually end up here if they are more general interest but with a frugal bent. Many of the links above could also be classified as frugal, but just happen to also have another defining category)
Wise Bread A community of bloggers posting about how to live large on a small budget.
Remodeling This Life Emily is a SAHM trying to live a simple and frugal life.
Almost Frugal* Kelly talks about frugality, family and finance. An expat living in France, she is a great writer and consistently publishes fabulous posts.
Being Frugal* Lynnae's blog was one of the first that inspired me to really get into the personal finance community on the interwebs.
Frugal Dad* I like his attitude, I like his writing. You should check out his site.
Like Merchant Ships Meredith's posts are short, sweet, and to the point. Most importantly, her few words give great inspiration.
Frugal Babe Frugal Babe is looking for a rich life without a lot of money, but with her discipline, I think she will have a rich life with a lot of money.
Married to the Empire Anne Marie is living life as a stormtrooper's life. She takes the everyday details of life and molds them into eminently readable narrative.
Money Saving Mom Crystal is so good, she can feed her family on $40 a week. Lots of sales tips, coupon leads and general advice for running a household.
